Tratalias
Tratalias is a little village located in the South west of Sardinia, in the Sulcis
The territory of Tratalias is inhabited since the prenuragic period; in the Neolithic the original core of the country stood in the place of TRACASI.
Of the next Nuragic era still remain important tracks as nuraghi and tombs of giants.
In the period in which Sardinia was conquered by the Vandals, and later by the Byzantines, the coastal populations sought refuge in the inland villages, including the current village of Tratalias.
In 1213 work began on the construction of the new Cathedral of SANTA MARIA DI MONSERRATO, and later the seat of the DIOCESE OF SULCIS was transferred to Tratalias village around 1218.
In the fifteenth century the Diocese of sulci was moved to Iglesias and in 1853 the country became a town in the province of Tratalias.
In 1954 it was created the artificial lake MONTE PRANU with the aim of enhancing the Basso Sulcis and give a new boost agro-pastoral economy, but because of water seepage, which generated numerous injuries to the surrounding buildings and hygienic problems health, in the 70s it was decided to build a new village a few hundred meters away, where the entire population of the old village moved.
